Organic Landscape Management

This capstone unit integrates organic care for roses, landscape trees and shrubs, lawns, and site-level eco-friendly practices. Students apply skills from earlier units to develop, implement, and evaluate sustainable maintenance plans that reduce synthetic inputs and enhance ecosystem services.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze common growth, pest, and disease issues affecting roses, trees, and shrubs and recommend organic cultural, mechanical, and biological controls
• Apply organic lawn care and soil improvement techniques to design a seasonal maintenance schedule that minimizes synthetic fertilizers and pesticides
• Demonstrate proper pruning, transplanting, mulching, and safety procedures for landscape trees and shrubs to promote long-term plant health
• Evaluate a landscape site and propose ten eco-friendly practices (including composting, water conservation, biodiversity enhancement, and integrated pest management) to improve sustainability outcomes
