Production Logistics, Safety, and Distribution

This capstone unit teaches students how to plan, execute, and wrap a film production with attention to logistics, on-set safety, technical workflows, and audience delivery. Students will practice location management, crew and talent coordination, smartphone and miniature-camera production techniques, file and sound handling, and strategies for promotion, festival submission, and distribution.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze logistical and technical requirements for single- and multi-unit shoots and produce a location management plan that includes site agreements, power and connectivity strategies, parking, security, and equipment staging.
• Apply on-set safety and communication protocols by demonstrating first-aid readiness, overnight security procedures, crowd and parking control, and effective crew communication (e.g., walkie-talkie use and contingency plans when cell/Internet fail).
• Demonstrate production and post-production workflows using standard and miniature camera systems and smartphones by implementing file management/backups, recording and reporting sound, capturing ambient audio, and completing a basic edit ready for screening or online delivery.
• Evaluate marketing, festival, and distribution options by preparing a publicity plan (social media, premiums, stunts, screenings), assessing distribution contract terms, and identifying appropriate festival and marketplace strategies to reach target audiences.
