Professional Composition and Production

This unit brings together advanced composition, arrangement, production, and industry-practice skills to prepare students for real-world music projects and careers. Students will produce, document, license, and pitch finished works, collaborate with peers and professionals, and create career-building materials such as demos, reels, and teaching resources.

Learning Objectives

• Apply advanced arranging and scoring techniques to produce professional-quality pieces for ensembles, film, and video games, demonstrated by a complete score and recorded demo suitable for release.
• Demonstrate industry-standard production and release workflows—including collaboration with agents, producers, and composing teams, plus copyright and licensing procedures—by preparing a documented release plan and cleared demo materials.
• Analyze music-for-media marketplace options and music licensing services (e.g., music libraries, sync platforms, and advertising channels) and select appropriate placement strategies for specific compositions, supported by a written justification.
• Create portfolio and career-development artifacts—such as demo reels, pitch materials, teaching guides, and online collaboration setups—and evaluate them through self-reflection and peer/professional feedback.
