Professional Practice and Classroom Management

This final unit consolidates classroom management, professional ethics, and communication strategies for first-year teachers, emphasizing both in-person and digital contexts. Learners will practice techniques for discipline, assessment and feedback, technology management, responding to complaints and misconduct, and reflective professional decision-making to prepare for real-world teaching challenges.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze classroom and online incident scenarios to identify appropriate disciplinary strategies, legal and ethical considerations (including sexual harassment and maintaining professional boundaries), and escalation procedures, producing a written action plan for at least three scenarios
• Apply digital classroom management and safety techniques (e.g., disabling microphones/cameras, background blurring, recording protocols) and multi-channel communication strategies to design a safe, inclusive lesson and communication plan
• Demonstrate varied formative and summative assessment and feedback practices, including timely feedback and incentive structures, by creating and delivering a scored mini-assessment with documented feedback
• Evaluate professional interactions with administrators, parents, colleagues, and students by reflecting on bias, appearance of impropriety, and conflict resolution, and submit a reflective portfolio with strategies for preventing and responding to complaints and unexpected events
