This unit introduces students to the Python ecosystem, development tools, and core programming fundamentals. Students will set up a working environment, write and debug simple programs, and learn basic syntax, data types, operators, modules, and introductory object-oriented concepts to prepare for more advanced programming tasks.
Learning Objectives
- Demonstrate installation, configuration, and use of a Python implementation and development tools, including creating and organizing project folders and running code in interactive and script modes
- Apply editing and debugging techniques to develop, comment, and correct Python scripts using proper syntax, indentation, and standard style principles (The Zen of Python)
- Create Python programs that use variables, built-in data types, and operators to perform computations and produce specified outputs while importing and utilizing standard modules
- Analyze basic object-oriented concepts and module organization to evaluate code readability, modularity, and maintainability in preparation for building larger applications in subsequent units
