Responsible AI for Public Good

This unit examines the societal, ethical, economic, and policy dimensions of AI as applied to public health, safety, services, and global business. Students investigate privacy, bias, resiliency, and community collaboration and learn to assess and design inclusive, accountable AI solutions using measurable criteria and research methods.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze ethical, legal, and societal impacts of AI in contexts such as public health, public safety, employment, and privacy using real-world case studies and stakeholder perspectives
• Evaluate the feasibility and scalability of AI-based business models and public services by applying assessment tools, KPIs, and risk/resiliency criteria to global implementation scenarios
• Apply social, gender, and economic research methods to identify bias and inequity in data and algorithms and propose measurable mitigation strategies that improve transparency and accountability
• Demonstrate community-centered designs and communication plans that enhance digital resiliency, privacy protections, and trusted collaboration among diverse global communities for AI deployments
