Site Development and Project Delivery

This unit consolidates site- and project-level skills needed to plan, procure, and deliver self-build and renovation works. Students learn to integrate site design, regulatory compliance, finance/insurance, supplier selection, and sustainable/alternative build methods to prepare a coherent, actionable project plan.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze site conditions (access, drainage, privacy, and difficult terrain) and produce a prioritized site development plan that incorporates paths, patios, walls, and garden integration
• Apply regulatory and stakeholder requirements by preparing notifications, permit‑ready documentation, and neighbour/advisor communication strategies including use of permitted development rights
• Demonstrate procurement and project setup by using materials and supplier directories, building cost calculators, and establishing a paperwork, subcontractor, mortgage, and insurance coordination plan
• Evaluate alternative construction and sustainability options (eco‑roofs, eco‑building methods, basements, loft conversions, and kit systems) and recommend solutions that balance cost, performance, and site constraints
