WordPress Foundations and Tools

This unit introduces students to the core concepts, administrative skills, and tooling of WordPress needed to build and maintain a website. Students will learn to choose hosting and domain options, navigate the dashboard, manage content, apply themes and plugins, and perform basic visual customization with CSS and child themes in preparation for deeper development and deployment topics in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and compare WordPress platforms, domain registration, hosting options, and multisite considerations to select an appropriate environment for a given project
• Demonstrate proficiency using the WordPress dashboard to create and manage posts and pages, organize content with categories and permalinks, and insert media (including multi-image columns)
• Apply themes and plugins by installing and configuring them, and implement basic styling changes using CSS and child themes while preserving upgrade safety
• Design and implement template structures and custom post types (using tools like Custom Post Type UI or Hybrid Core) to organize content and create category-specific templates
