Police Exam Foundations

This unit orients students to the North Carolina POST/NYC police selection process by unpacking the Notice of Examination, test formats, and scoring while introducing core test-taking strategies. It builds foundational skills in math, reading, grammar, observation, report and essay writing, professional comportment, physical/medical readiness, and law‑enforcement terminology to prepare students for practice assessments and subsequent advanced preparation units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the Notice of Examination and POST/NYC test blueprints to identify required sections, time limits, and scoring so students can develop a targeted study schedule.
• Apply test‑taking strategies and foundational skills in mathematics, reading comprehension, grammar, memory/observation, and terminology to achieve at least 80% accuracy on formative practice items.
• Demonstrate written communication proficiency by composing a clear incident report and a structured 250–300 word essay that meet POST formatting and rubric criteria at a proficient level or higher.
• Evaluate personal selection readiness by completing a physical/medical/background self‑assessment (including the Personal History Statement) and producing an individualized improvement plan with measurable goals and timelines.
