Application and Test Preparation Skills

This unit develops candidates’ application completion, written communication, and test‑taking competencies aligned with North Carolina POST expectations. Students will practice POST‑style reading, math (percentages and averages), incident reports and essays, while preparing physically and mentally for written, oral, and psychological components.

Learning Objectives

• Demonstrate the ability to accurately complete a law enforcement job application and Personal History Statement in accordance with POST expectations by producing a complete mock submission.
• Apply reading and writing skills to answer POST-style reading comprehension, spelling, observation/memory, and incident report questions and compose essays that meet POST scoring criteria.
• Analyze and solve applied math problems involving percentages and averages and interpret data presented in tables or bar formats commonly found on written exams.
• Apply test-taking strategies, pre-test wellness and fitness routines, and an understanding of the psychological evaluation and other police officer test components to create a personalized pre-exam preparation plan.
