Targeted Resume Development and Optimization

This unit expands foundational resume skills by teaching students how to tailor content, design, and online presence to specific job targets. Learners practice keyword targeting, format selection, mobile and printable presentation, and strategies for special populations to improve recruiter visibility and application success.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze at least three real job postings to extract keywords, required skills, and qualifications, then create two job-targeted resume headers/objectives that incorporate those elements
• Apply resume design principles by producing two formatted resumes (one print-ready and one mobile/online-optimized) using appropriate formats (chronological, functional, or chrono-functional), bulleted style, and effective contact placement
• Demonstrate proficiency with job-search technologies and application tools by completing a sample e-form, optimizing an online professional profile, and performing a mobile-optimized job search within a simulated environment
• Evaluate and revise resumes for special populations (returning caregivers, veterans transitioning to civilian roles, older workers, and applicants with disabilities) and document at least three tailored strategies that highlight transferable skills and certifications
