This capstone unit synthesizes prior technical and ethical learning to examine real-world AI applications, leading researcher perspectives, safety considerations, and future societal implications. Students translate expert insights into actionable recommendations and prepare to communicate risks, benefits, and policy options for responsible AI deployment.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze real-world AI case studies to identify technical, social, economic, and ethical impacts on stakeholders and communities
• Evaluate expert perspectives and synthesize at least three common themes or lessons into a concise written brief with evidence-based citations
• Apply AI safety principles to design and document mitigation strategies for two hypothetical AI risk scenarios, including measures for detection, response, and accountability
• Demonstrate effective communication of future implications and policy recommendations by delivering a structured oral presentation and accompanying one-page executive summary
