ACT Foundations and Test Strategies

This unit introduces students to the ACT’s formats, timing, and logistics while building foundational English, math, reading, science, and writing skills needed for success. Lessons emphasize test-day preparedness, stress- and time-management strategies, and targeted practice on grammar, sentence structure, basic math concepts, reading passages, and the optional writing prompt to prepare learners for deeper skill application in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the structure, timing, and question distribution of each ACT section (English, Math, Reading, Science, Writing) to create a personalized study and test-day plan
• Apply standard English conventions and parts-of-speech rules to identify and correct grammar and sentence-structure errors on practice ACT items with 80% or greater accuracy
• Demonstrate test-day preparedness by assembling required materials, practicing four stress-management techniques, and following a time-management strategy during timed practice tests
• Evaluate and solve representative math, reading, and science question types (including inequalities, number problems, and passage-based items) to identify areas for targeted improvement
