AI, Ethics, and Social Impact

This unit explores how advances from early computing to modern AI reshape business, education, climate action, and public life, emphasizing ethics, measurement, and problem-solving. Students apply structured design thinking to propose technology-for-good solutions, learn to align corporate actions with values, and prepare metrics and safeguards to guide responsible deployment.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze historical and contemporary technological trends (from minicomputers to AI) and their impacts on education, marketing, and climate initiatives, citing at least three concrete examples.
• Apply structured problem-solving and design-thinking methods to develop a prototype proposal for a technology-for-good project that addresses a climate or education challenge, including defined goals, stakeholders, and measurable outcomes.
• Evaluate how AI-driven tools reshape marketing and organizational identity by identifying ethical, privacy, and equity risks and recommending at least three mitigations aligned with company values.
• Demonstrate the ability to select and justify appropriate quantitative and qualitative indicators and tools, and produce a one-page measurement plan to track progress and communicate results for a chosen initiative.
