This unit teaches students how to secure and evaluate inexpensive lodging (with emphasis on hostels), make intentional luggage and packing choices for short and unlimited travel, and use travel technology to stay connected and protect data. It builds on basic travel concepts and prepares learners to plan low-cost, tech-enabled trips while minimizing expenses and risk.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and compare hostels and other low-cost lodging options for a specified itinerary by evaluating cost, safety, amenities, location, and guest feedback to select the most appropriate option.
• Apply packing principles and luggage selection criteria to produce both a carry-on optimized packing list and an unlimited-travel packing plan, justifying choices based on trip length, climate, and mobility needs.
• Demonstrate travel-ready technology setup by downloading offline maps and entertainment, selecting essential travel apps, and implementing at least two methods for backing up travel documents and media to the cloud or local storage.
• Evaluate common travel gear and purchasing behaviors to identify at least five cost-saving strategies (including items to avoid and benefits of shopping locally) and recommend gear purchases that align with a given budget and travel style.
