Budget Travel Planning and Gear

This capstone unit synthesizes advanced, practical skills for budget travel, covering visas and entry requirements, the digital nomad lifestyle, selecting travel gear, packing strategies, local food and activity integration, lodging choices, and a pre-departure checklist. Students will apply these skills to design and execute short-term, low-cost travel plans and prepare contingency and countdown plans for real-world trips.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze visa, entry, and documentation requirements for at least three international destinations and determine timelines, costs, and compliance steps required for a 7–14 day budget trip
• Apply lightweight packing principles and gear selection criteria to produce a cost- and weight-conscious packing list (including backpack, footwear, electronics, and toiletries) that meets specified budget and weight limits
• Demonstrate the ability to plan and justify a 5–7 day budget itinerary that includes transportation, a mid-range lodging night, at least one local food experience, one unique local activity, and stays within a defined budget
• Evaluate digital nomad and contingency strategies (connectivity, workspaces, safety, and backups) and create a comprehensive pre-departure countdown checklist and contingency plan for a remote-work travel scenario
