Clinical Judgment, Test-Taking, and Self-Care

This unit refines NCLEX‑RN preparation by integrating test‑taking strategies, clinical judgment, therapeutic communication, patient safety protocols, and self‑care planning. Learners will practice prioritization and decision‑making in realistic scenarios and develop evidence‑based study and wellness plans to improve readiness for licensure.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze NCLEX‑style multiple‑choice items to identify common distractors and pitfall patterns (absolute terms, repeated options, all/none choices) and select the best response using nursing prioritization frameworks
• Apply therapeutic communication techniques and holistic, nonpharmacologic interventions (including complementary therapies and pain‑management strategies) to patient case scenarios, justifying choices based on safety and evidence
• Demonstrate clinical prioritization and safe action selection in simulated acute‑care situations (e.g., infant abduction protocol, irrigation management, mobility assistance, code responses), including appropriate escalation and delegation
• Evaluate personal study habits, test readiness, and wellness needs and create a measurable study schedule and self‑care action plan that addresses identified weaknesses and NCLEX scheduling/retake constraints
