Drivers of Hyperintelligence and Innovation

This unit examines the biological, technological, economic, and institutional drivers that produce rapid, combinatorial innovation and the emergence of hyperintelligent systems. Students will connect historical breakthroughs, evolutionary and cognitive foundations, and contemporary phenomena (AI, DAOs, genetic engineering, virtual economies) to entrepreneurial strategy, ethics, and societal impact.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze historical and contemporary technological and economic catalysts (e.g., printing revolution, trade networks, token factories) that generate combinatorial innovation cascades, citing at least three case studies and explaining their effects on markets and institutions.
• Evaluate biological and cognitive foundations of intelligence — including brain mass, sensory-emotional systems, DNA-driven processes, and evolutionary dynamics — and assess implications for human augmentation and artificial intelligence development.
• Apply ethical, legal, and governance frameworks to scenarios involving hyperintelligent AI, genetic editing, and decentralized autonomous organizations, and propose mitigation or policy strategies that balance innovation with societal risk.
• Demonstrate entrepreneurial and managerial decision-making by developing a concise strategic plan for a venture or organizational adaptation that leverages hyperintelligent technologies while addressing market opportunity, regulatory constraints, and ethical considerations.
