EHR Deployment and Infrastructure

This unit guides students through planning, selecting, deploying, and maintaining electronic health record (EHR) systems for practices of varying sizes. Students will integrate technical infrastructure, regulatory compliance, vendor/contract considerations, and clinician engagement strategies to produce practical deployment plans and troubleshoot common challenges.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze practice size and workflow to recommend appropriate network, server, workstation, and computing models for secure, scalable EHR deployments
• Apply regulatory and compliance requirements (privacy, security, and standard contract language) to develop deployment plans that protect patient data and meet legal standards
• Demonstrate the steps for selecting an EHR solution, including comparing pricing models, vendor partnership options, and required deployment tasks, and create a checklist for go-live and post-implementation support
• Evaluate common EHR deployment challenges and benefits and propose clinician engagement, training, and toolkit strategies to sustain system adoption and staff well‑being
