This unit combines focused exam preparation with core clinical content to strengthen student readiness for the EMT licensure exam. Students complete a diagnostic preassessment, practice proven test-taking strategies, and master airway/respiration and basic cardiology/resuscitation skills to bridge foundational knowledge from Unit 1 and prepare for advanced clinical scenarios in subsequent units.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze results of the Unit 2 preassessment to identify at least three specific content weaknesses and produce a prioritized study plan aligned with the EMT exam blueprint.
- Apply evidence-based test-taking and stress-management strategies during timed practice exams to improve pacing and accuracy, demonstrated by at least a 10% increase in practice test score or a 20% reduction in pacing errors on a follow-up assessment.
- Demonstrate competency in airway, respiration, and ventilation by correctly performing airway maneuvers and bag-valve-mask ventilation on a manikin in 90% of graded skill evaluations and accurately document oxygenation/ventilation findings.
- Evaluate cardiac emergencies and resuscitation essentials by interpreting common cardiac rhythms, selecting appropriate immediate interventions (including activation of CPR/AED protocols), and leading a simulated resuscitation scenario while meeting established critical action benchmarks.
