Exam, Writing, and Test Readiness

This unit prepares students for the written and practical components of police officer selection by focusing on reading comprehension, grammar, incident report and essay writing, and test-day strategies. It also addresses completing the Personal History Statement and basic physical preparation to perform well on test events and on exam day.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze practice reading-comprehension and incident-report questions to identify correct answers and justify selections using textual evidence, achieving at least 80% accuracy on timed practice sets
• Apply grammar, spelling, and sentence-structure rules to edit and improve written responses and sample essays, reducing mechanical errors by 75% from baseline writing samples
• Demonstrate the ability to compose clear, complete incident reports and a compliant Personal History Statement and to write a law-enforcement style essay that meets rubric criteria for organization, clarity, and relevance
• Evaluate and implement test-day strategies (time management, arrival procedures, answer-guessing techniques, nutrition, and basic physical warm-ups) and demonstrate readiness by successfully completing simulated test events and arriving prepared for assessment
