Foundations of Clinical Anatomy

This unit introduces clinical anatomy terminology, directional language, and the structure-function basics of major body systems used in healthcare. Students will learn to identify and explain the integumentary, musculoskeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, immune/lymphatic, digestive, urinary, and endocrine systems, building on prior health foundations and preparing for more advanced clinical assessment and intervention units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze anatomical directional terms, body planes, and regional nomenclature to accurately describe the location and relationship of structures in clinical contexts
• Apply knowledge of structure and function to identify and label major components of the integumentary, musculoskeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, immune/lymphatic, digestive, urinary, and endocrine systems using diagrams, models, or diagnostic images
• Demonstrate understanding of intersystem relationships and homeostatic mechanisms by explaining how two or more body systems coordinate in normal physiology and common clinical conditions
• Evaluate brief clinical vignettes to prioritize assessment steps, select appropriate anatomical terminology, and communicate findings relevant to patient-centered care and subsequent instructional units
