Foundations of Digital Nomad Life

This unit introduces learners to the digital nomad lifestyle, covering identity, motivations, basic financial needs, remote-work pathways, and early travel and housing planning. Students will assess readiness, compare routes to remote work, and create initial plans for productivity, health, and logistics to prepare for deeper skill development in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze personal motivations, skills, and financial requirements by producing a written nomad-readiness profile that includes a quantified monthly income target and expense overview
• Evaluate at least three routes to becoming a digital nomad (e.g., remote employment, freelancing, entrepreneurship) and justify a recommended pathway with pros, cons, and transition criteria
• Apply remote-work and transition strategies by creating a 30-day work-from-home or employer-approach plan that addresses workspace setup, productivity routines, employer communication, and co-working alternatives
• Demonstrate destination planning and risk management skills by completing a comparative cost-of-living and housing options analysis plus a basic health and safety checklist for two prospective countries
