This unit introduces core Python language concepts, common programming constructs, and essential tools used in real-world development and computing. Students will learn to write, run, and debug Python programs, manage data (files, JSON, lists, dictionaries), preview basic data analysis and visualization, and explore introductory AI and physical computing concepts to prepare for advanced projects in subsequent units.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze Python syntax, data types, control flow, operators, and built-in structures by tracing program execution and predicting outputs for given code samples
- Apply Python interactive mode, script files, functions, classes, exceptions, file I/O, JSON handling, and module usage to design, implement, and debug working programs
- Demonstrate basic data handling and visualization skills by loading data into NumPy/pandas and producing exploratory plots with Matplotlib
- Evaluate physical computing and deployment trade-offs by designing and testing simple Raspberry Pi projects that use Grove sensors, I2C devices, motors, or a PiCar-B controller
