Resume and Online Brand Optimization

This unit guides students through creating, refining, and tailoring resumes and digital profiles for targeted job searches, including hybrid and in-person presentations. Students will learn to craft accomplishment-focused, keyword-rich documents, manage online reputation, and address challenging background or experience issues to improve employability and readiness for next-step application and interview activities.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and choose appropriate resume formats (chronological, functional, hybrid) and stylistic conventions to match specific job targets and application guidelines.
• Apply digital branding strategies by composing professional social profiles, managing online reputation, leveraging blogs and RSS alerts, and avoiding common mobile job-search mistakes.
• Demonstrate the ability to convert work history and experiences into accomplishment statements and keyword-optimized summaries and core resume sections suitable for applicant tracking and recruiter review.
• Evaluate and mitigate employment barriers by addressing experience gaps, neutralizing chilling information (including ex-offender contexts), obtaining and presenting references, and proofreading for grammar and clarity.
